Book early at Cooks Green Cottage as the Cheltenham Jazz Festival is always a popular event that draws a huge crowd of music loving families from across the UK and the world. The festival which runs from May 1st bank holiday to 6th May this year 2013 represents the start of the summer for Cheltenham signalling the beginning of a season of wonderful festivals of many kinds. The Cheltenham Jazz Festival has become one of the leading events in the UK music calendar. This year’s event has an eclectic mix of performers old and new, traditional and innovative headlined by the one and only Van Morrison and featuring the legendary Dionne Warwick.

First class live music is the aim of the festival and this year is no exception with a broad range of jazz on offer in many different guises. The festival programme features Cheltenham’s unique trademark of international jazz legends with a new wave of up and coming artists with performances from a selection of the UK’s greatest musicians. Special highlights of this year’s schedule include the headlining concerts from Van Morrison, Dionne Warwick, Madeleine Peyroux and a mix of the genre’s best new artists that includes Laura Mvula and Lianne La Havas. Newly crowned “king of jazz” Gregory Porter visits Cheltenham to be artist in residence and festival-goers will be in for a treat with an eagerly anticipated soul-session from popular duo The Noisettes.

Over the years, the festival which began in 1996 has presented iconic figures from the world of jazz including Herbie Hancock, Eartha Kitt, Dave Holland, Curtis Stigers, The Claudia Quintet, Ray Brown, Bennie Maupin, Dave Holland, Jamie Callum, Zoe Rahman, and Jools Holland to name just a few of an illustrious list of jazz performers.

The full line up for Cheltenham Jazz Festival 2013 has been announced and it promises to be an unmissable, exciting event to kick off your summer season. The festival takes place in the heart of Cheltenham at over the bank holiday weekend, 1-6 May 2013. BBC Radio 2 programme “Friday Night is Music Night” will once again be broadcasting live from the Cheltenham Jazz Festival.

For all festival visitors, there is much more on offer at the festival. The vast array of food and drink outlets include a unique pop up restaurant “The Jazz Kitchen” that will feature the very best of seasonal produce from the local region. This restaurant will be open for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner. This venue is beautifully designed and will have live music in the evenings with an atmosphere enhancing cocktail and champagne bar. We cannot wait to take a table and enjoy relaxing in this exciting new eatery. Plenty of food and drink stalls, lots of interesting talks, family activities and workshops exploring different aspects of the music industry are on offer.

The music stages feature a 1300 seater Big Top, the wonderful Parabola Arts centre (just minutes from Montpellier Gardens), and a 630 seat Jazz Arena.

There is nothing more enjoyable than a well organised music festival where you have the chance to see household names and innovative new artists alongside each other. A music lover’s delight, Cheltenham resounds to the sound of music drifting over this exceptional spa town welcoming in the summer season. The festival atmosphere is exciting, yet family friendly in a venue where wellington boots are not required!

You are quite likely to spot us in the crowd singing along to Van Morrison and taking in the soulful sounds of Dionne Warwick who as many people know was godmother to the tragic, late Whitney Houston.
