September Events from our Holiday Cottage

Cotswold Falconry CentreSeptember is an ever-popular time to visit Cooks Green Holiday Cottage. For some, it is an opportunity to spend one last weekend together as a family before the children go back to school. For others it is an escape to enjoy the first few days of autumn when days are mellow and a curling mist greets the days before the warmth of the last of the summer sun fills the days.

September is a wonderful month to visit Gloucestershire and we have picked out some of the events that we will be attending this month and hope you will join us too during your stay at the holiday cottage.

The Wharf House Beer, Cider and Perry Festival rakes place by the waterside at Over. The day will see an historic boat parade; boat rides along the canal, craft fair featuring local produce, live music, vintage car rally, and games including coconut shys, bash the rat and many more. Children are well catered for with plenty of activities and treats to keep them occupied. The Wharf restaurant will be featuring special tapas menus, offering fine food, and local beverages. This is a fun weekend not to missed and it is happening on 1st and 2nd September

Maybe you have wondered what makes owls so special. Well, there is a chance to find out on the evening of September 8th at the Cotswold Falconry Centre. This evening is your chance to see these spectacular creatures close at hand and learn more about them. You will see the owls flying free against the evening sky so take your camera with you. You are invited to walk in the Owl wood where the breeding owls live and be sure to listen out for wild owls too. The evening includes cakes and hot drinks.

On Sunday 9th September, there is the well-known Gladiator Arena Day at Chedworth Roman Villa. This experience will bring the Romans to life with action packed displays of displays, demonstrations, and opportunities for you to join in with the might of Rome. The new covered building enables you to view the in-situ mosaics from suspended walkways and you will enjoy the sights, smells, and sounds of the dining room and bathhouse. With the museum, shop, and refreshments from the new café, tremendous fun for all is guaranteed.

If you believe in angels or just enjoy wonderful uplifting music, The Song of Angels celebrates angels as invisible companions and guardians, as spiritual warriors, muses of creativity and as messengers, heralds, and healers. Music is by Howard Skempton, Patrick Larley, Palestrina, Russian Orthodox chant, Gregorian chant, Byrd, and Victoria.

There is an optional chant workshop from 2 pm – 5 pm, a rewarding and enjoyable afternoon exploring Gregorian chant about Angels. Everyone is welcome, singers and non-singers alike. You will also have the opportunity to perform the chant in the Opus-A evening concert. It all takes place at St Andrew’s Church, Montpellier, Cheltenham.

These are just a taste of all the wonderful events for September so we look forward to welcoming you at Cooks Green Holiday Cottage to enjoy some of these experiences.
