Visit us in June, July and August for Special Celebrations!

Queen Elizabeth - Diamond JubileeDuring June, July and August Great Britain will be celebrating in style with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic Games. Gloucestershire has put on some special events to make your visit extra special in Gloucester Cathedral, Sudeley Castle and in many other attractions.

At Birdland in Bourton-on-the-Water, a special quiz to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee will be held throughout June 2012. Families can roam around the stunning park and gardens and answer questions to find the “crowns”.

Birdland sits in 9 acres of woodland, gardens and river and is home to some of the most exotic and rare birds from around the world, including the only group of King Penguins in the UK! Try a walk round the ‘Marshmouth Nature Reserve’, take part in events at ‘The Encounter Zone’ including ‘Meet the Keepers’, ‘Bird of Prey Encounters’ and ‘Reptile Awareness’ sessions. At the ‘Discovery Zone’, you will be able to find out more about the life of birds. There is also a children’s play area, PenGloucester Waterways Museumguin Café, ice cream kiosks and picnic places.

The Gloucester Waterways Museum are celebrating the Jubilee with a special one hour cruise on the Gloucester-Sharpness canal with tea and cake served during the cruise throughout the month of June.

June also brings the Cheltenham Food & Drink Festival to Cheltenham with a line up of the most tantalising food and beverage producers in the county. Attractions include:

  • Top local chefs demonstrating delicious dishes from regional foods
  • Over 130 exhibitors
  • Real Ale from a selection of the best brewers who produce fine ales and cider.
  • Enjoy Premier and Grand Cru champagnes in the Champagne Garden Bar.
  • Wine talks and tasting.
  • Live music and street theatre.

Also in June of interest to music lovers, was the highly regarded family and green friendly Wychwood Music Festival. The festival has gone from strength to strength over the years fast becoming the UK’s most successful independent arts event of the summer season. 2012 was the eighth annual Wychwood Festival.
